Still life for Up Here Business

The September issue of Up Here Business magazine dipped into aboriginal business. I shot this for a feature story – The rise of aboriginal corp. The idea behind the shot is straight forward. Aboriginal business in Canada’s north has it’s fingers in quite a bit of sectors one may not think. Airlines, heli, telecommunication, and even Coke distribution to name a few. The icons are not illustrated in post, they are carefully cut out by me and the dream catcher is painted white.

Kyla Kakfwi in Up Here magazine

Kyla Kakfwi, manager for Dechinta, a bush-based “university” in Yellowknife. I photographed her this earlier this summer for the September issue of Up Here magazine.

Windy aurora

Windy aurora with clouds, Nikon D700, 17mm

The fall weather is not working out in my favor. I’ve been going out hoping for strong aurora and calm clear nights. This is a still from a recent time lapse that didn’t work out. Moving trees sped up just doesn’t look good. At least thats my taste.

Bad weather aurora

Northern lights behind clouds, Nikon D700, 17mm

I headed out the other night for a time lapse with my friend Nigel but got into bad weather. The aurora behind clouds can make for a creepy looking scene.

Fresh start

My old blog was hacked and flagged by Google as dangerous. I’ve been contemplating the format and purpose of it lately, so I decided what better time to start over. Welcome to the new digs.
